University Of California Los Angeles Children Media Project

University Of California Los Angeles Children Media Project

For this assignment you will develop, present, and justify a concept for a new children’s media property inspired by the knowledge you’ve gained in this course. The concept can be for a new television program or series, a podcast series, a video game, or an app. The assignment has two components; 1. An in-class presentation 2. A paper THE PAPER The paper should be no less than 1000 words. All papers should include a discussion of these components: -Clear explanation of the concept and purpose -Knowledgeable integration of at least three course terms and/or theories -Target audience demographics and psychographics (no more than a four year range) -Why kids will love it. –Overview of the competitive environment; other items that are similar to your concept and how your idea is still unique -The financial model for the concept. -Concerning elements: is there anything in your concept that could be a concern to a parent? An educator? A regulator or government official? How will your concept deal with these concerns? ELEMENTS TO INCLUDE IN BOTH PRESENTATION AND PAPER: Your presentation and paper are basically conveying the elements of a SHOW BIBLE as we discussed in class (Remember and refer to The Cat in the Hat show bible). Determine which of the elements below should be explained so that your idea is super clear to your audience. You do not need to discuss ALL of these components. 1. Character details- tell us about the number of and type of characters, distinguishing characteristics, gender, race, ethnicity, age, grade, disability, etc and how kids of that age act 2. Educational details- if your concept is educational, how does it connect to curriculum goals for your target audience? For example, if you’re creating an app with math games for children ages 4-7, then your idea should be teaching the specific math curriculum that children 4-7 learn and build on those elements in some way, and include a statement from some math organization supporting that these are the math goals for children 4-7. What will be the main lesson and the secondary lesson? Will you integrate the ARCS model? How? 3. Entertainment details- why will kids be interested in this concept? what is unique or attracting about your concept? Is it Interactive? How? Will parents want to coplay? Why? Is there something about the design? What? 4. Business/ revenue model- how will this concept make money? Who will pay for it? Will there be direct funds (people pay for it when they use it) or will something else fund it (such as merchandise)? Who will provide the money to produce/create it? 5. Concerns—will parents love it? Hate it? Will regulators have any problems with it? Is it guided by any specific regulations? Is it violent? Could kids cyber-bully with it? Privacy issues? 6. Competition—Has anyone else had an idea like this? What is your idea most similar to? Did you do (at minimum) a Google search of your topic idea? If you find that someone else has already created this, you must come up with a different idea or substantially improve upon the other person’s concept. 7. Proof of concept- how do you know that the thing you think will happen with kids and your idea, will actually happen? Are you following a ‘best practice’ for this kind of entertainment? Education? How do you know this will make kids laugh, cry, engage, sing, learn…whatever? IMPORTANT INFORMATION Your concept and your paper should go deeper than just thinking of this as an entrepreneurial idea. The idea must connect with course concepts on a deep level. How can you show that your knowledge of media and children, as learned in this course, influenced your concept? When doing your presentation make sure you 1) introduce yourself, 2) have a beginning, middle and end, 3) provide clear details, not just a vague idea- help us imagine your entire concept, 3) ask for questions at the end and be prepared for questions, 4) find ways to incorporate terms and concepts from the course. For example, don’t just say ‘parents will play with them’, say ‘this utilizes co-play opportunities’ Integrate at least 2 theories or terms from the course into your paper. This could include terms from the following list, or others that have been referenced through the semester. (Note that Social Learning Theory is NOT on the list.) Social Development Theory Cognitive Development Theory Script Theory or Schema Theory Uses & Gratifications Theory- ritualistic, instrumental Moral Development Theory Cultivation Theory ARCS model COPPA or CIPACARU and Verifiable parental consent Edu-tainment Adver-gaming Stereotypes and Representation Intersectionality Globalization/Media imperialism Cultural competency Gender constancy Drip vs. Drench Theory Excitation Transfer Theory Cognitive Neoassociation Theory Mean World Syndrome USE THIS CHECKLIST PAPER: Overall, the paper conveys a deep understanding of course concepts and goals Concept reflects an understanding of child development and course concepts At least 2 course concepts are integrated into the paper Target audience is discussed and is a subset of kids under 15 Character details are discussed Educational details are discussed (if appropriate) Entertainment details are discussed Business /revenue model clearly explained Concerns are addressed, as needed Competition considered Writing is well organized. Logic and flow are easy to follow. Paper is submitted by the deadline. Paper is approximately 1000 words. Paper uses appropriate spelling, grammar and punctuation. Paper is double-spaced, with no abbreviations THE PRESENTATION: This is a 5-7 minute presentation that pitches your concept to the class.. The presentation should NOT simply replicate the information in your paper. Begin your presentation by clearly stating exactly what media concept the proposal is for. Clearly explain what the audience or user will see and/or do. Help us ‘see’ it. While the presentation should include mention of course terms and foundational theories, this is not the focus of the presentation. The presentation should focus more on clearly conveying the overall concept, target audience, plot, visuals, and purpose. Think of the presentation as a pitch meeting. The presentation should focus on these components: -Clear explanation of the concept and purpose -Target audience demographics and psychographics (no more than a four year range) -Why kids will love it -The competitive environment- discuss other items that are similar to your concept and how your idea is still unique -The financial model for the concept. -Are there any concerning elements to regulators? Parents? Others? How will your idea deal with those concerns? Running Head: CHILDREN’S MEDIA PROJECT 1 Children’s Media Project This educational concept is the development of an application that will ease time. The application will be used to revise humanities subjects and teach English to those who have no proper comprehension. The target population for the application will mainly be children between the ages of 3-8. Humanities and English as subjects have been significant in shaping different people’s lives across the world. Equipping these children with such skills at a tender age will help build a strong foundation for their future. The ACRS model will be implemented by selecting the best possible measures that will guarantee success. The application will be built using some of the latest technological advancements. Incorporating some of the latest trends in children’s development, this project will be able to attract children from different parts of the world. Another unique factor in the project will be the use of the latest child songs. In their free time, these children might be able to visit additional sites in the application. The songs and other entertainment activities will be interactive. This feature will be arrived at through regular tests on the tunes and melodies heard by the children. The main way this concept will make money is through downloads and premium subscriptions. The subscriptions will be at some specific fees. Moreover, those subscribed will access better services compared to regular users. Parents or schools will be able to purchase this application from the play store. Also, the application will be made accessible to the public, granting everyone interested access to download it. Money for all the production and creative process will be from savings and donations. From its specifics and the anticipated positive changes, the application is to make, I believe parents will love it. The attraction will mainly be due to the help this app will make in CHILDREN’S MEDIA PROJECT 2 ensuring children access better education services. The project planners have set up key measures to prevent kids from facing cyberbullies and other unethical considerations that might accrue. Previously, different people have tried coming up with such ideas. However, I have not seen any successful attempts to meet these expectations. Different individuals have come up with previous statements. The plan we currently aim at fulfilling is quite technological and considers all the latest trends and developments in the education sector. Focusing on ethical attributes, the plan incorporates the moral development theory, using appropriate language to teach children. I believe that this project will be very successful and may help children develop better skills and competencies. The use of this app will help positively transform the education sector, helping young children grow their academic prowess. Incorporating these needs with the requirements and the desires of the education industry will help these children develop proper precision and understanding of how to achieve better results. These functions will also be essential in ensuring the kids laugh due to the latest trends and wide research. Furthermore, the impact this project will have on the lives of these children and their future will be very advanced. Purchase answer to see full attachment
