Both assignments account for 50% of the course grade, so read the instructions closely. Your course grade is not contingent on whether the communication strategy(ies) is/are real and/or actualized. Presentation Guidelines • • • • • • • • Time frame: no more than 10 minutes total, which includes 2 minutes available for a brief Q&A, comments, or feedback that might help inform the analysis in the final paper. Include at least 1 visual to represent the communication strategy. Begin with a summary of the community, focusing on any project goals or objectives and reasoning about why this community was chosen. Discuss how the community’s needs were established and how these needs should be addressed. Share what the community felt was realistic and/or unfeasible or unrealistic. Describe and/or show the communication strategy conceptualized and/or executed to help the community of interest meet its needs, receive care, and/or benefit from the strategy. Present an analysis or discussion of the strategy(ies) that could be or were put into practice. Thinking long term, imagine and address possible or actual impact(s) that the communication strategy(ies) has/have in helping the community meet its communication needs. Is there evidence to support these potential or actual conclusions? Lastly, address what the pair/group would or will do differently with more opportunities, time, and/or resources available. 1 Paper Guidelines • • • • • • • • • This paper structurally should contain multiple paragraphs. This paper should be at least 800 words and include an official title that creatively represents the connection between community and your communication strategy(ies). You may re-use content from your Midterm. Cite yourself and the year 2022. Protect yourself from self-plagiarism. Begin with a summary of the community. Address any critical historical, cultural, social, economic, environmental, etc. information that is specific to the chosen community and/or project, focusing on any project goals or objectives and reasoning about why this community was chosen. You can reiterate this part of the presentation if desired. Describe your positionality as participants, students, and/or student researchers. Make at least one theoretical connection to assigned course readings. Explain your motivation(s) for the project, how the community’s needs were established, and how these needs should be addressed. Provide an analysis of the communication strategy, drawing from any outside research or assigned course materials to justify points of significance. Significance can be theoretical or applied/practical/empirical/observable. Incorporate any final points for discussion or future exploration. Same-sex couples cannot marry or be allowed to adopt in China when both LGBT and non-LGBT people have different legal rights. As time goes by, the Chinese are becoming more accepting where homophobic violence has been rare. The courts have given a few gay-friendly verdicts, and a new facility in Shanghai now serves transsexual children. Another example of the LGBT community in China is Beijing’s gay community. It provides a safe, welcoming atmosphere for Beijing’s LGBT+ community, through events and support. Nights at the progressive Destination or Funky (next to each other) are easy and fun. In China, the Beijing LGBT Center is a non-profit organization keen to promote the rights of China’s LGBT+ community. Few will accept that the State or its rules purposefully target homosexuality. Some say Xi Jinping’s increasingly conformist and conservative policies have harmed the LGBTQ community. Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong all have thriving LGBT communities, but public displays and pride festivals are rare in China since the government limits all forms of public protest.
