Theory and Application Essay
Developmental Stage
In this write up the developmental stage is the Adolescence and Emerging Adulthood stage. After an individual has gone through the childhood stage, the next phase is the adolescence stage. Adolescence is the time when an individual transforms from child to adult. Children entering adolescence go through a lot of changes physically, intellectually, and socially. There are three stages of adolescent development. The first stage is the early adolescence between the ages of 10 to 14 years (Allen & Waterman, 2019). Children go through the first phases of puberty, during which both sexes endure substantial physical growth and an increase in sexual desire. Teenagers in this development period have a low aptitude for intellectual cognition, but their cognitive interests grow insignificantly. Though early adolescent adolescents have little concern for the future, children acquire greater morality throughout this era.
The second stage of adolescence is the middle youth for individuals within the age bracket of 15 to 17. Puberty is accomplished for both boys and girls in the mid-adolescence era. Girls’ physiological growth slows, whereas boys’ growth continues. This era of adolescence displays a continued increase in the availability of analytical thinking. Adolescents at this age start to create long-term objectives by becoming engaged in personal philosophy and rational thought (Allen & Waterman, 2019). Adolescents go through a range of social and psychological development throughout this change phase, including developing self and a desire for freedom. Last is the late adolescence stage of the age bracket between 18 to 24 years. Individuals show minor physical changes, but the cognition dynamics are rampant. Young individuals experience increasing emotional maturity and autonomy throughout this final phase of teenage development.
Erikson’s Psychological Theory
Erik Erikson was an egocentric psychiatrist who established the most popular and influential theorist. The write up will employ Erickson’s psychological theory to amplify the proposed developmental stage involving eight steps for analysis. Mainly the first four stages explain the development of a person at the childhood stage; however, the fourth and fifth incorporate the adolescents (Maree, 2021). The very first phase of psychotherapist Erik Erikson’s contribution to psychology involves mistrust versus trust. The stage develops upon the birth of a child until one turn eighteen months. In the write-up assessment of the developmental stage, analyzing personality starts from this stage.
Stage two involves doubt, shame, versus autonomy. The stage targets children between 2 and 3 years. The phase is when kids have self-control of their abilities, making them independent. The third stage is Guilt vs. Purpose with students between the age of 4 and 5. Certain chores should be permitted to be completed successfully by kids out of their own. They must experiment with their own and discover their unique strengths. Fourth is inferiority versus industry for children between 5 to 12 years. Children become even more capable and efficient at doing more complex tasks.
Role confusion versus identity is the fifth involving adolescents with an age of 13 to 19 years. Throughout Stage 5, it informs the write up developmental phase on the importance of guidance and counselling. Adolescents are in dire need of counselling to be self-dependent. Students must be allowed to engage in various activities involving strict supervision (Maree, 2021). The six-stage is the isolation versus intimation involving emerging adulthood of the age of 20 to 40 years. Emerging adolescents have the zeal of developing, sustain, and enhance good relationships with other crucial persons trusted throughout this phase. Patients must form bonds with others that enable them to admit their weaknesses. Seventh is stagnation versus generality for adults aged 40 to 65, and finally is despair and ego for those above 65 years. Erickson theory will enable one to evaluate and discover the client’s habits in different stages, especially the effects of adolescence.
Beautiful Boy (2018) R Movie
The write up will involve analyzing the beautiful boy movie. Beautiful Boy is a gripping drama that follows the life of a drug-dependent boy (Timothée Chalamet) who is obsessed with crystal meth. He is seen mixing narcotics with both a teaspoon and lighter, sticking needles, snatching and abusing drugs, driving while intoxicated, and participating in meetings. The influence of drugs could be due to peer influence. The boy looks agitated, and drug addiction is affecting his relations with family and friends.
