Big Data can be defined as a data that is large in amount. In any company the huge amount of data is almost impossible to process using traditional methods. So, the concept of big data was introduced as three V’s; Volume, Velocity and Variety. Size of data matters when it comes to determining the value out of the enormous data. So volume is one characteristic which needs to be considered. Similarly, velocity is another one, which refers to speed of data flow. And variety, which refers to the format of data, either structured or unstructured. It helps the company to create growth opportunities and new categories that can analyse the data which can lead to better business strategy. Nowadays, big data is used in education industry, insurance industry, government and banking sectors, etc. Because it saves the cost and time, controls online reputation, help understand market condition, it has been one of the important factor in every organization.

Decision Support system refers to a program that helps the organization to support the judgements, determination and decision along with course of actions. It helps in analysing the huge amount of data including sales, revenue, inventory, etc., which can help in decision making and solving problems.

As DSS can evaluate stocks that are held in the business assets which can be optimized, it helps in manage the inventory. Similarly, it analyses sales data and makes prediction using the decision support resources. Making good projections in the business helps to determine the progress of a company. So, the company uses DSS to optimize industry specific systems.

Database security refers to security controls designed to protect the database management system. It includes of various security controls such as, security monitoring, DBMS configuration, encryption, authentication etc. which helps to manage the security protocols.

Some of them are briefly described below:

Authentication: Authentication is process of verifying the user’s credentials by matching with those stored in the database. So, only the user whose profile matches to the database gets permission to access the data, networks and database platforms.

Encryption: Data encryption can be defined as the translation of data into a code. Hence, only the user with decryption key or password can have access to the data and read it. So it is one of the security controls in database management system.
