Research mental health disparities in your home state and identify any intersectionality you may find with class and ethnicity/race. What programs or policies are in place to minimize the disparity?
Hello class,
Equal mental health care can reduce mental health disparity in the US for all groups irrespective of race and ethnicity. Therefore, the government should give equality in mental health services for whites, Hispanics, Asians, and Black Americans should be given equally to reduce mental health disparities (Guy & McCandless, 2012). It is known that the racial minorities in the United States have the most inadequate health compared to the whites because of inequality in the provision of mental health care services (Guy & McCandless, 2012). Therefore, equality in providing health care services to all ethnic groups will help solve mental health disparity (Steil, 2001). Therefore, providing equal mental health care services to all ethnic groups in the United States will help minimize mental disparity.
Health care should administer intervention designs to improve mental health for both the minorities and whites, despite the social class difference between the minorities and the Whites. Mental health disparity is reduced when the minority groups and whites are given equal opportunity in giving out interventions meant to improve mental health care and treatment (Jost, Gaucher & Stern, 2015). The equality will help reduce the disparity between the interventions given to the whites and the minority groups (Carbado, 2013). Hence, interventions to treat mental health will help reduce disparity.
Social inequality is the central concern of sociology because it explains different types of inequality and the scope of society in which inequality is most evident. For example, education attainment and mental health disparities in the United States are affected by similar factors: social class differences, family income, race, and ethnicity.

Class,
There is a disparity in Hispanic and African American males receiving care for mental health in the state of Florida. There is also a significant difference between the amount of women and men that receive help. “Disparities also exist across gender, according to the data. Women were more likely than men to receive counseling or therapy or take prescription medication in the past year.”(Snipe,M. (September 23, 2020) The state does have many programs funded through the government to help with free or discounted mental health care that can help people in need. There are also hot lines and on line forums for people to access as well.
