There was once a time when TV commercials, infomercials, and newspaper ads were widely popular marketing tactics. The advantage of this type of traditional marketing was legitimate when relevant; before social media. For example, people used to get their public news by reading the paper, which has been transitioned to online subscription, promoting efficiency and saving news companies cost. When coupons and job ads were paper clippings it was more than an advantage to have your business out there. It wasn’t until social media took over and tailored marketing to the individual consumer was introduced. Social media allowed companies the opportunity to market themselves for free and have now even shifted to business accounts where consumers can shop while on the app as well as leave ad feedback. Facebook marketplace and IG business accounts, have truly transformed the marketing world for the better.
Because of this there is now not many advantages to conventional marketing. While it can be beneficial for some, the reality is commercials have transitioned to ads, TV to online streaming platforms (Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, etc.), printed newspaper/ads to online subscriptions/ads, even magazines are now shifting into an online presence and their main aspect is printed issues. With that being said, conventional marketing is still around for a reason, and depending on who your demographic is, can still be a very successful tool to sales.

Printing helped promote propaganda in the past which helped market or influence peoples ideas towards certain topics. There is still printing today such as magazines with ads for companies to market their product. Unfortunately, as time has progressed less, and less people use printed marketing as things have gone digital. This limits the efficacy of printed marketing. Televisions used to be one of the most effective ways of marketing prior to Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc. People would be forced to watch commercials multiple times per hour. Now with streaming TV most people pay for their service without ads limiting the television commercial exposure. Currently social media and digital marketing are the most efficient ways to market. People are constantly on their computers, tablets, and phones. This allows companies the opportunity to promote continuously. In addition, your search history prompts what marketing ads and commercials you will receive on your internet devices. It will send you ads regarding products you have recently searched. This encourages people to purchase their product versus another that they did not receive an ad on.
