Writing to Inform: Literature Review Assignment
Grading: Total Points = 100 points
· Part A: 60 points – Annotated Bib
· Part B: 30 points literature matrix
· APA/Grammar Writing Mechanics = 10 points
Overview: In order to complete your DEP assignment, you will need to do research. One of the more useful tools in conducting research is the annotated bibliograph and literature review matrix. An annotated bibliography combines the citations found in the References list at the end of documents in APA format with annotations about each of the sources.
Purpose: An annotated bibliography is an organizing tool that is helpful when working on a research project. An effective annotated bibliography is used to compile research sources in one location and provide the researcher with quick access to the information contained in each source. A literature review matrix better consolidates, facilitating the writing of the literature review section.
Assignment Guidelines:
Step 1: Identifying and Reading articles (work as a group)
· Identify 3 peer-reviewed articles. No older than 5 years https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMKZ3cBoHy0
· Article 1: Find one articles that discuss your selected health topic define the topic, provide risk factors, justify why it is an important public health issue, research etc
· Article 2: Find one articles that discuss evidence based prevention/management strategies tackling your health issue using
· Health education/Health policy/environmental change/communication
· Work with your group so you all read different types. One person does health education, the other policy, the other environmental etc.
· Article 3: Find one articles that discuss specific interventions that have been implemented to tackle your health issue (and population of interest)
· Local/ state/national level
· Work with your group so you all read different types. Two people do local, one state, one national etc
Step 2: Annotating and Reviewing (100 points)
· You will submit two components
· Part A: Annotated Bibliography (60 points)
· Part B: Literature Review Methodology & Matrix (30 points)
· APA formatting, correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling must be used (10 points)

Part A: Annotated Bibliography Guidelines
1. Write an annotated entry for each article
2. Cite the source in proper APA format and organize entries in alphabetical order by author
3. Copy and paste abstract of article
4. Write a thoughtful and complete annotations (minimum 120 words PER article entry) in your own words, that includes a:
a. Brief annotation that summarizes the article (approx. 3-5 sentences).
b. Then in 2 to 3 sentences, explain the sources relevance and importance to your issue or health promotion at large.

Part B: Literature Review Matrix Guidelines
1. For all 3 articles, read and input information into the literature review matrix
a. Be sure to use the matrix template I provide
2. The goal is to write summary short sentences based on the article. These tables will help you and your group members in the actual writing of your Paper Part 2 allowing you to quickly pull the main ideas/themes from each article.
3. Cite the source in proper APA format and organize entries by article set
4. Provide a Literature Review Methodology Section as well
