Do you think an organization’s safety and occupational health program manager should also be in charge of managing the organization’s environmental compliance program? Why, or why not? Share with the class any experiences you have had with one person running both programs.

I have had both the experience of being in charge of both health and safety with environmental and then being in charge of only health and safety while someone else was in charge of environmental. There is zero doubt in my mind that having two positions is better. It can be difficult for one person to manage just the health and safety aspects for an organization. One person can accomplish it with the right knowledge and the support from their team however best practice calls for 2 people, especially depending on the nature of the business. If an organization is a large generator of hazardous waste and has a large waste water treatment plant, two positions are warranted in my mind.
