The CDC defines cost-effectiveness analysis as a way to examine both the costs and health outcomes of one or more intervention (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention., 2021). It is a way to compare one intervention with another and estimating how much it costs to gain a unit of a health outcome (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021). Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is treatment for HIV (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021). There is no cure for HIV, but ART is a medicine that controls the virus and if taken correctly, can prevent the transmission of HIV through sex (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021). In my opinion, ethically, everyone has an obligation to take care of each other. For example, our textbook describes how a poor state within a country can thrive by means of keeping their population healthy through education (Skolnik, 2020). This is a perfect example of how the government has the necessary power to instill regulations to promote health and education, which can be used to prevent the spread of diseases and control the current cases by using cost-effective analysis. To me, a life is worth more than money.

What is the role of education in global health? If you had to pick an issue that could offer deliverable changes through education in global health, which would you choose and why?

The role of education in global health preventive intervention leads to disease prevention. Teaching parents the affects health can lead to healthier health affects of children. According to (Skolnik & Riegelman, 2020) good health increases longevity and lifetime earnings. Healthy people have increased productivity and can earn more. If I could choose an issue that would cause a positive change through education, it would be screening for diabetes and hypertension. The reason why is because these diseases can affect anyone and everyone, from pregnant mothers, adults, and children, and are preventable. Providing education can create a massive change for future generations. Providing education on healthy diets, smoking, and alcohol consumption will decrease these diseases. According to (WHO, 2014) diabetes rose from 108 million in 1980 to 422 million in 2014 and major cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, stroke, and lower limb amputation. Most important noted is that with healthy diet, regular physical activity, maintaining a normal body weight and avoiding tobacco use are ways to prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes reported by (WHO, Diabetes 2021). (WHO, Hypertension 2021) reported in 2015 1 in 4 men, & 1 in 5 women had hypertension, and less than 1 in 5 people with hypertension have the disease under control. Both diseases affect persons living in low- and middle-income countries.
