1) DISCUSSION POST
You have been hired to lead a project (e.g. a relocation of a corporate HQ office), similar to this project: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/digger/wp/2016/10/18/marriott-to-move-headquarters-to-downtown-bethesda/?utm_term=.721d2114db06. As the Project Manager, you know it is important get the project off to a good start. You are working with your Project Sponsor to decide on the optimal project management structure for this project. You are confident that either a dedicated project team structure or a matrix structure will work for the project, but the Project Sponsor thinks either will fail. Describe how you will reassure him that either structure will be successful.
2) PEER REVIEW #2 (HANS)
Hello Class and Professor.
Good morning. I wanted to touch base with you to reassure you that it is a benefit to the company and our community for us to relocate our corporate office. This move will save us time and money for all involved by having our cororate office in this new location.
I also wanted to reassure you that either using a matrix team or a dedicated project team will prove to be a success. A dedicated project team will have a reduction in our annual operating costs and will increase productivity and will therfore have a new building ready in no time. Using a matrix team will also be beneficial as it will allow management and employees to work together to complete the move. With the matrix team it allows us access to a team of people who will pool their knowledge and work together to bring about a great outcome.
I want you to contact me at any time if you have any questions or want an update.
Thank You Hans
3) PEER REVIEW #2 (JESSICA HAY)
Hello Class and Professor,
As the project manager for a project of relocating the corporate HQ office, communication is a crucial aspect for the entire process. Consequently, for the sake of ensuring and re-assuring the project sponsor regarding the way a given project structure will be a successful one, there are different ways that can be used. I believe listing out the pros and cons of each structure is a very important step in this process. Once there are tangible facts concerning surrounding each of the structures, then there will be room for the project sponsor to feel the impact of any of the two structures. More so, I will also elaborate on the advantages and disadvantages of the matrix structure as well. Once this discussion has been had with the project sponsor, we will move forward with the best Project Management Structure, based on the positive points and pros. The one with more positives and pros the one we can use and know that we have made the best well rounded decision. As I started communication and keeping those communication lines open is a major key in making any project successful.
Thanks and have a great week
Jessica
