Artists often explore the characteristics that determine our personal and social identity.
They construct a sense of who we are as individuals, as a society, or as a nation. They question
stereotypes and conventions while exploring attributes such as culture. gender, sexuality,
nationality, and heritage.
Performance has long been a popular activity in the art world. This takes many forms from
the complex time-consuming choreographed ensembles with many performers to single
happenings inspired on a moments notice.
Check out some examples HERE on this MOMA page.
