Artists often explore the characteristics that determine our personal and social identity.

They construct a sense of who we are as individuals, as a society, or as a nation. They question

stereotypes and conventions while exploring attributes such as culture. gender, sexuality,

nationality, and heritage.

Performance has long been a popular activity in the art world. This takes many forms – from

the complex time-consuming choreographed ensembles with many performers to single

‘happenings’ inspired on a moment’s notice.

Consider how many intersections exist in your life when it comes to art, identity, and

performance. Choose one and write a reflection incorporating the criteria listed below.

Instructions: 1. Write a detailed description of a performance in which you have personally taken part.

2. Explain what type of preparation was required in order to participate or achieve the

desired result.

3. Share why you wanted to be involved. (why was this important to you?)
