Think about an issue in aviation (maintenance, operations, ATC, airport or airline management, customer service, etc. – virtually anywhere in aviation). Identify an issue and make a statement about that issue (develop a hypothesis about that issue).
Do the following:
Perform some research (preliminary literature review) in the general area of interest (Av Maint, ATC, Airport or airline operations, etc.) and identify issues or gaps that need further investigation.
State the issue you have identified.
Discuss its relevance and importance to either an individual airline company, airport, maintenance facility, or the aviation industry in general.
State the hypothesis you believe to be true if tested (null hypothesis). Justify your answer with relevant facts.
State your alternative hypothesis.
State whether your hypothesis is directional (one-tailed) or non directional (two-tailed). What does this mean in terms of hypothesis testing?
State how you might test your null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis (describe a brief methodology that would allow you to collect your data for testing).
Differentiate between the different types of data, and explain how probability can be used to test/support a hypothesis.
Note: the last item (#9) is not required at this point, but if you feel like attempting it, please do so. I will be happy to read and critique. This is a little advanced, but if you think you are up to it, look at your potential data to be collected (type of data) and decide on the type of statistical analysis you may perform on this data to test your hypothesis.
