Discussion
Andrew Jackson is sometimes presented as a man of questionable honor, one who was cruel to certain people-groups and abusive of his authority. While this is definitely part of the picture, Jackson has left a legacy that some historians find positive, even admirable. He was considered the “people’s president” and the “representative of the common man.”
Discuss both the positive and negative influences and legacies of Jackson’s administration. Was he a “common man”? How does the period of time in which the person lives affect his view of Jackson?
